What I know : a lot of new coins are plated steel ! . A quick method to separate these coins is a magnet.
Portability, packing and storage is needed. With the composition of coin metals,the premise is that the better the mix, the more value the coin will have. The other factor is the legality of actually melting down coins for the metals contained. Perhaps coins will appeal only to coin collectors, and they will be worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
i believe apmex has a special deal of just 1.99 over spot. Northwest territorial mint is also pretty good.

these pre 1965 coins are the best ones to get, 90% silver, since they are circulated you basically pay for the metal costs. I myself have a bunch of franklin half dollars. Each Franklin half is worth about $5.25 in metal prices despite having a face value of 50 cents. Inflation FTL
“Junk silver” is the BEST way to get silver cheaper than bullion coins or bars… another idea is to buy scrap silver/gold jewelry on the cheap at garage sales etc and trade them at precious metal dealers for coins and bullion.

What I mean is coins that are our old dimes and nickels and silver dollars. These are made out of silver. (90% in USA, 80% in Canada) Therefore, these coins will hold value (and maybe go higher) much better than the coins we have today. Those should be the junk coins.
However, two rolls of quarters made of the cheap metals they are today will have more value than a $20 bill very soon. Massive more value in 2 years.

junk silver: Just a term that is used to describe pre 1964 coins. They have small amounts of silver in them. Not full ounces. It’s not really junk it’s just a term to speak of non-bullion coins. Good things to have.
